Whether you’re gearing up for an event or trip, or just want some extra color year-round, self-tanner is the best way to achieve an all-over bronze glow from the comfort of your home. Before you jump into creating the tan of your dreams, here are a few foolproof tips and tricks!
Prep Before Using Self-Tanner
Before using self-tanner, remember to shower, shave, and ALWAYS exfoliate! Never apply a lotion or oil before the application. If your skin is too moisturized, the tanner won’t set correctly.
Top Products to Use
If you’re new to using a self-tanner, or just want a little bit of color, I recommend using the Tarte Tinted Gel. It’s lightweight, not too dark, less likely to streak, has very little smell, and is very hydrating. This is a great option too if you need color ASAP without going too dark!
My go-to tanning foam is Loving Tan. I use the medium in winter and dark in summer. This is a quick-drying formula, so I always use a mitt for application. When it comes to applying on the neck, chest, knees, and elbows, I use the detail brush and bronzer brush from Seint. To speed up drying time, I’ll usually use a hairdryer and then wear loose-fitting clothing overnight. I sleep in my tanner and rinse off in the morning. A little may come off on your sheets or clothing but it has always easily washed out for me.
Self-Tanners for Your Face
I do not typically use self-tanner on my face, as it is prone to cause breakouts. If you do want some extra color on your face, I highly recommend the Nars bronzer in Laguna. It’s easy to apply and looks great on most skin tones. You can also use this to contour with the Detail Brush.
I hope you found these tips and tricks useful! Happy self-tanning!
